So! Spooky can’t cancel the spell! At least, not unless Anaado lets him. And now his former best friend from Down Under is getting handsy again. Is Spooky going to have to deliver a worm-level smackdown on his long-lost ex? Would that even work?

Well… Gotta admit, I wasn’t expecting that plot twist.

Well, here comes the hissy fit…….Spooky’s powers seemed to work fine on the worm…..but maybe that’s because Mr. Hissy allowed it.

Anaado’s possessing Kyle’s body, Kyle gets stronger in Hell. It’s not that Spooky’s magic isn’t effective, it’s that his target was stronger than he thought.

They say that “Pride Goes Before a Fall”

If his power is stronger here…….shouldn’t Kyle be affected by the change also…..I recall what he turned into in Hell…..and after all he is a Prince of Hell.

That we don’t know. Back in “Engaging the Enemy” we only saw Anaado in Spooky’s memories and whenever said a word.
This chapter 3 is all we have of Anaado.

I was referring to this trip from Hell to Earth…..courtesy of Spooky.

There’s a lot of anger in Anaado and a lot that we don’t know about the relationship between him and Spooky.

Kyle had been bound to the bed and (mostly) couldn’t speak when he actually was in hell – his big fight against his dad was on Earth, right next to the hell gate!

But even bound, confused, and magically suppressed, in hell he managed fire hot enough to burn the Annihilator.

The Annihilator was weakened by being in Hell. Laampros said so.

Oh yeah. Anaado seems to be conveniently overlooking that he has the power because he’s possessing a demon prince just at the moment. Now I’m wondering if Spooky can use that link that he forged while making out with Kyle and which Anaado used, and in turn use it as a back door to either cut off ‘access priveleges’ for Anaado or for Spooky to gain the power of a demon prince himself

I’m voting for Kyle in Hell form to come ripping his way out of Anaado’s chest……it may be messy but definitely effective!

Destroying his own body, currently possessed and shape changed by Anaado.

It could be sort of a willpower thing, where Kyle ends up forcibly expelling Anaado from his body.

“This is my body. My power. And my _friend_! GET OUT!!!”

Kyle is “THE” demon prince, yes?

I think even his dad was only introduced as a king of hell, not the king of hell…!

Being what it is (hell), could there be more than one king? Not in a demon world I think. He who has the power rules baby!

Sure, but hell might be big enough for multiple warlord-like “regional” kings duking it out among themselves or seeking favour with their ultimate ruler by competing on the extent of their acquisitions…!

He;d have to wake up before willpower would matter.

What if that demon prince is indeed clawing his way out as we speak? Anaado is in for a nasty surprise. Spook’s is in for a great one maybe.

It’s weird. I equally feared that Spooky’s attempt to break the spell would fail, and yet didn’t see it coming.

oh darn… the only good thing to me atm is that at least Anaado doesn’t seem to be on some kind of revenge, at least it seems rather that he is more hurt and disappointed and well, jealous. But I actually don’t think he’d reall “hurt” Spooky in a dangerous way right now

We’re about to find out. 🙂

On a completely unrelated topic, I’d like to ask a question about grabbing the first post of a new comments page (“The Virgin”). Specifically, how often (if ever) have any of you “just stumbled” into it?

During the YP:Engaging The Enemy story I sometimes went “hunting”, and spend anywhere up to 45 minutes obsessively refreshing the webpage while waiting for the opportunity to be the first poster. And that more-or-less sated the craving, and the last two times during YP:EtE were occasions when I just checked the page at random, and the first post was simply waiting to be grabbed, so I did.

The 2nd time it happened, on the last page of YP:EtE, I basically said to myself, “Okay, let’s see how far this coincidence is going to go.” and took what I call my Vow Of Serendipity. Since then I have only taken the first post if it’s the first time that day that I have checked the webcomic for updates. (Easy on Wednesdays: I’m in Sydney and when the update happens I’m often distracted by my day job.)

Long story short, I have “stumbled into” the virgin during the YP: Legendary storyline on something like half a dozen times (I expect Dokidoki has the exact number, just as she kept track of the number during YP:EtE). Sometimes I’ve gotten to the old page and seen that DaveFragments has posted that the new page is up, sometimes I just arrived at the new page by using the bookmak. On at least three occasions that I can recall Disqus said that I grabbed the first post 3 or 4 minutes after DaveFragments had posted the url link for the new page.

Now, the sensible reason might be Young Protectors fandom is getting mellower over time and being less aggressive about grabbing the virgin. But I’m not feeling sensible at the moment. I’m feeling bemused, slightly awed, and more than a bit paranoid.

So: has anybody else experienced this phenomenon? Or is it just me, and I should be worried that Disqus is setting me up for something?

I have ‘stumbled into’ the virgin about 10% of the time, when I have just shown up, and about 5% I have done a little camping first, but it’s been there the first time I checked for a new page (often after seeing the Patreon update).
The rest has been hunting 🙂

I have never gone hunting. As far as I remember, I have made the first post twice, both in a period where the Wolf was not here when the new page was posted.

Never being on the hunt myself I do prefer my pages “experimented” IYSWIM but this year, I think I got it once (or twice maybe) just like that, by ‘stumbling into’ the page.

I don’t hunt the first comment. It’s just not practical for how I deal with updates, Patreon and about 7 open webpages. Not to mention that some of my friends think it’s fun to light up my cellphone and computer with messages… Havoc rules on update nights.
There was a time when I tried to get the first post before Patreon but invariably while I composed a comment to the page, other comments appeared.
I like seeing lots of first reactions on a new page.

Thanks to everybody who replied. It becomes clear that this is not an unusual occurance, so I will put aside my worries that Disqus may have been trying to mess with me.

This doesn’t really make sense. Given that much of Spooky’s magic is infernal in origin, why would not being on Earth make him WEAKER?

I find myself intrigued by the picture of Anaado in panel 2. He looks almost calm and beatific (probably the effect of the eyelashes), and then he seems to snap and lashes out in panel 3. Interestingly, the script says that in panel 2 he’s supposed to be sneering at Spooky, which is a plausible interpretation but not the one that came immediately to my mind.

I agree, but I have noticed that sometimes the final version of the page doesn’t follow the script 100%. Either number of panels and/or how it’s drawn. Alex is good to take Adam’s opinion and/or artistic input into making the page too. Like, if Alex’s initial request makes the pages too artisticly difficult to show details.

Oh yes. Noticed that a few times myself, and it’s a credit to the synergy of writer and artist that they can bounce off each other in such a creative manner.

In this case I was mainly struck by the contrast in Anaado in the 2nd and 3rd panels. And now that I’ve had time to think about it, it strikes me as a kind of summary of the theme of Anaado’s appearance in this story: he looked so adorable and happy when he first arrived, and now it’s all gone pear shaped.

This change between panel 2 and 3 works even better than if he *had* looked like he sneered in panel 2.

Maybe he needs to “do” Anaado for Kyle to be able to connect back to reality.

I hope it goes something like this: Kyle ‘wakes up’ inside Anaado’s body and takes over, using his full powers as a Prince of Hell, manifesting in his true demon form (like the one he had when he was almost talked into siding with Laampros) to expel Anaado from his body, take Spooky out of Hell, and figure out how to keep his penis from opening portals to Hell. Seriously, that is not something you want on your dating profile. “Having sex with me will open a portal to Hell”…well, maybe a few folks with weird kinks would like that.

Well, to put it into perspective, it wasn’t Kyle who opened that portal to hell, it was Spooky’s spell.

Kyle’s orgasm just provided a lot more power to that spell than Spooky had any experience with.

Does anyone think that Anaado was always like this? Power crazed and emotional fueled? Wanting to have complete control over people and the world? Or was it due to him be tortured for all those years? For me personally, it doesn’t excuse any of his actions but I like to hear everyone’s opinions this evening.

On the next page, Anaado thoughtfully provides sleeves.

I feel like a smart move would have been to pretend that Anaando left, letting the body revert to Kyle’s form physically, and see what Spooky said afterwards to “Kyle”. Plus, if Spooky thinks he can dispel you so easily, he’ll underestimate you in the future when you reveal yourself again.
