Good question, Commander. Kyle, you’re still with us, right?

There is lots of anger in Kyle right now.

Actually, are Kyle’s friends still with Kyle?

He won’t need to spend any money on black nail polish that’s for certain.

I want to say yes to that, but it might take Kyle a few moments to remember in his pain and panic.

This is still Kyle, just a slightly pointier version, is all.

If I were on the team, I’d insist on nicknaming this form “Pointy Kyle.” I think it would be helpful in diffusing tension.

I love Commander. I just hope that Kyle can see that she has concern for his well being, and is not just afraid about what he’s becoming. Fluke and Tsunami totally just look afraid.

I do hope they’re afraid for Kyle and not of him. The commander certainly is, but Tsunami.

I really hope that this little make-over doesn’t turn the rest of the team away. Come on, Tsunami, no need for that look. It’s the latest fashion in Hell and Kyle looks rather adorable.

Well Tsunami doesn’t like it when he and his friends look adorable. He was the only one who was disgusted by the in-universe fanfics they found of themselves on the web.

Whelp… Camping over and done with. Back to writing my novel. Actually it’s a saga. For real, unlike Twilight where the entire series spans like two years. Ours spans over 150 years, plus flashbacks of about 25 years before the first book begins and plot planned out for about five years after the first set of comic books. (Yes, we have planned several novels set in the near future, several graphic novels set in the far future, and a video game)

Good luck with your writing. It sounds like a hell of a lot of work to do.
I’m rather curious actually. I would like to learn more about it someday.

Maybe. I’m trying to work on the presentation of it. The elevator talk, if you will. Originally I went around saying, “It’s about a vampire and a werewolf,” because that is literally how it started, my girlfriend said “We should write a book about a werewolf and a vampire.” But there’s so much more to it. We said the vampire should be a witch. And it’s set in present day. And the werewolf is a hacker. And it kinda grew into this huge thing. It breaks a lot of stereotypes. Both the main characters are kick-ass but have high anxiety. The alpha wolf is a scrawny pink-haired pansexual man. The vampire is asexual and pagan and worshiped Apollo before she turned. Her best friend is the female equivalent of a playboy. The werewolf and his roommate are in the mob, and the vampire witch is in a coven. The mob and the coven kind of have equal footholds in the small town where they live. Oh, and neither the vampire or the werewolf had vampirism or lycanthropy before the first book begins. And the coven kind of has it out for vampires, one of the few creatures they kill upon recognition.

I really want to read this!

Kyle is obviously horrified at the expected cost of his mani-pedi.

“Ok, Kyle, we can deal with the horns and the claws…but if you start growing one of those mile-long beards, you’re off the team. We gotta have *some* standards.”

At this point I’m guessing most, if not all of the team would enjoy that for one reason or another.

They might still demand that he dress for publicity reasons. And to appease Gordon.

Well, anything could happen at this point. I don’t think I quite understand all the rules of this universe. Kyle was more afraid of admitting that he was gay than admitting that he was in a relationship with a 50-year-old supervillain. Do other people really have to face that sort of homophobia? I’m so glad I don’t.

When I was at school some Of The teachers would beat up kids for being gay. Fortunately the world has changed a lot. Still sometimes the level of prejudice you may face varies depending on which town – or which street – you’re in.

It’s not always about that. Many people who have never actually seen any gay bashing are still terrified to come out. Some of it is fear that people will attack them, but more often (and definitely in Kyle’s case), it’s a fear of losing people. Kyle, like many young non-straight people was probably afraid that his loved ones would not look at him the same way. Until you actually tell people, you have no way of really knowing what their reaction will be. The thought that they might reject you or that they might start treating you differently can be terrifying.

It’s kind of ironic. Homophobia creates fear in gay people rather than fear of gay people.

It would be a relatively short arc as I am pretty sure this is the last chapter of this story.

Kyle, demon bunny boy, love, snookums, take a deep breath, calm your heart, let the anger flow out with each breath. Ignore Tsunami, he’s got a giant stick stuck up his ass as it is.

Fluke, you better say something encouraging right now. And Spooky, seriously, time to let go and return to the problem at hand. Kyle needs you.

Knowing his friends, they aren’t horrified by Red Hot. They’re horrified by the emotional and physical pain he’s going through.

Not that I would expect Laampros to make this distinction, assuming he even understands it at all.

Okay, new batcrap insane off-the-wall predication: It’ll be Tsunami who says the inspiring thing that drags Red Hot back from demonic prince-dom. I agree with Dokidoki that it’ll be difficult, but we’ve already seen that he worries about people and within his extremely narrow definitions he wants what is best for them. So Tsunami will say something wise and kind (in a way that is perfectly in keeping with both the best and worst of the characterisation we’ve seen of him so far) and then Alex will be able to sit back and cackle madly when the readers all go “Bwah!?”

The souls could be the key.

It doesn’t matter if he’s still human, he’s still Kyle.

Kyle is still himself in there. Tsunami could distract him by shaking his ass in those TIGHT pants at this point.

I’m really hoping the team sticks with him. Hopefully, they’re just worried. Something is happening to their friend and teammate, and they don’t know how to deal with it.

I would see most of them sticking with Kyle, Tsu-Tsu is the wild card. He is more likely to lash out than be helpful.

Well, he doesn’t exactly have the best track record…

Yeah true. I do and I don’t want him to say something mean. Like, conflict within the ranks, nobody’s perfect. They’re young enough to pretty much have their opinions formed. That doesn’t mean, they can never change, if they aren’t open to it. I think, people can always change, from day to day, hour by hour, minute by minute. It’s just gotta be a certain way said, and person, maybe.

Commander is the admin, doesn’t let things get too far. Fluke and Spooky are the best friends, closest to Kyles age. But still, very different. Spooks has Seen Things, and he seems to be cooler and more open minded.

Fluke is a bit more traditional, a bit conservative. But he loves Kyle like a brother.

Tsunami’s is pretty much full traditional, and seems very vocal about it.

Baby Mitch is my fave. “Like Kyle”, aka, gaybie(gay young person). Wants to be full on part of the team, and not sheltered. Ho boy, I remember those mid teen years. I thought I knew everything. And couldn’t wait to get on with life. Ha!

So how is he supposed to pick his nose, rub his eyes or scratch his balls without injuring himself now?

Very carefully.

Have Spooky do it for him (pick his nose, I mean).

Time for Duncan to wake up and remind Kyle that a) that pep talk about there’s good still inside cuts both ways, b) his friends still accepted him after Duncan outed him as gay, they obviously accepted him after finding out who his father was, they’ll deal with this as well.

Presumably there are superheroes in this world who shift forms, so there’ll be precedent for someone looking very, very scary in their high-power form.

Yes yes yes, until he actualy does something evil (and saving Flyboy is not), there is no reason for them to be against him. Just hope Tsunami will actually have this argument with himself BEFORE opening his big mouth and that Kyle will not assume that his friends can’t love him anymore.

Tsu-Tsu is not known for a good brain to mouth filter. Considering his view on homosexuals, this could just be confirmation in his eyes about them truly being evil.

We do hope of course that this won’t be the case and Tsu-Tsu actually manages to say something that isn’t harmful…..but his track record isn’t good. -_-

I’m not sure. Kyle feels SO angry, and he’s not had time to process the last 24 hours of bad events. I think Duncan is the one he needs to see the least right here, or Kyle’s anger may explode.

Spooky’s speech. Spooky, a hug saying it will be all right, and he’s still Kyle, is my best bet at the moment.

Now we need Spooky more than ever. Not only would he not have asked that question, once asked, he would have answered it.

Oh my gosh. Amanda is amazing.
Her choice of words are perfect.
Even in the heat of the moment she knows exactly what to say.
“Kyle, are you still with us?” Is the perfect way to ask Kyle whats going on. Because it tells Kyle that she isn’t afraid of him. It helps strengthen the idea that they are a team and helps combat Laampros’ words of “you fill them with such horror.”
She acknowledges that if the power does end up taking over his mind that it’s not actually him. Her choice of words, I think, are what’s going to keep him held together!

Just what I was thinking,

Pff… as if I’m going to fall for that one, Alex… OF COURSE Kyle isn’t going dark and he’ll save the world! I’m a believer!

I like Kyle’s new “hot as Hell” makeover…I hope if he does return to being more or less human that he’ll at least keep the ability to tap into his demonic powers if necessary. It seems demonic powers are far stronger than anything we’ve seen so far, considering demons can grant immortality, or at least agelessness, and represent “true” flame not earth fire, which apparently pales in comparison. Having a demonic team mate might make them more powerful, especially if Kyle can learn to control it.

I don’t think that just any demon can do that. Laampros is one of the more powerful kings of Hell. But as Kyle is Laampros’ son, your argument still stands.

OH dear. FLUKE is there. Fluke whose power is wild swings of luck that he doesn’t quite control. Now, was his balance sheet in balance before, or is Kyle going darkside going to put him on the ‘good things are due’ side again?

What is it that charges Fluke with good luck? Is it that something happens that seems bad to him? Then he should get a positive charge from this. Or is it that something happens that is actually bad? I have no doubt that this power up is going to be good in the long run. But does the long run count more than the short? Who gets to decide what is bad anyway?

It’s not clear to me. I suspect he has a ‘sense’ for it somehow, but so far it appears to be “whatever Alex decides is necessary” — which as writer, he can manipulate. (Yes I know it’s not that easy my characters argue with me too.)

He seemed to have used his luck to have been unaffected by the power dampener, so it’s possible that Kyle might just go full demon for a few seconds while he gets his charge back up due to all the destruction

Patreon subscribers can see the scripts, prelim sketches, and other work in process. According to the script, he has essentially gone demon physically — he’s supposed to have red skin. But the art doesn’t reflect this, perhaps due to a last-minute adjustment to make it feel like he might still be mostly human.

I’m going to say we don’t know for sure, unless Alex steps in to tell us that he did, in fact, change that detail.

Now I’m starting to wonder if, somehow, Kyle was the demon boy in Spooky’s back story but he doesn’t remember it.

It happened when Kyle was 11 or 12. Since he regards the foster family he lost at 12 as his family, he was most likely with them before Spooky went to Hell.

And reels with the knowledge that he’ll never be able to pick his nose again, and his world will never be the same.

He’s gonna need a manicure stat. Black claws are very on trend for Spring 2017, but the upkeep is ridiculous.

And I’m still wondering here, what the hell is Spooky thinking about? Sacrificing himself to save a dozen of people, that is supposed to be dead because of losing their souls, is not gonna help anything at this situation. He need to leave that souls and come to help Kyle.

I’m like 90% sure he’s just thinking about excruciating pain and misery, but I could be wrong lol

Well, there’s a strong case to be made for Pointy, but I suggest Caaldos.

“Pointy” doesn’t float my boat.
And “Calicos” is too close to the Spanish for “dumbed down”

Caaldos: A slight misspelling/variant of calidus:

Do you mean “cándido” (candid, ingenuous) or “cálido” (warm)? Because there is no word in Spanish for “dumb down” that sounds like “Caalidos”. In Spanish that would be “bajar el nivel” or “simplificar”.

“Callado” is what I was thinking of but my Spanish is awful. I freely admit my Spanish is awful. I asked a friend over the phone and I think I was being played dirty because my Spanish is awful. This same friend has tried to feed me dirty Italian but I learned that as a kid. My Mother and Aunts used to talk all that in front of me. They spoke Calabrese Italian while my Father spoke an Italian dialect from Abruzzi. Neither is the Italian I read in opera.
I Think they messed up my brain for Spanish.

They don’t seem filled with horror, a bit concerned for him, but that’s a whole different thing.

I think it’s more horrified FOR him rather than AT him, they’re seeing a comrade and friend being slowly transformed into a full-fledged demon and fear the loss of someone important to them. Something they’re almost completely helpless to do anything about other than hope ‘I know you’re in their somewhere’ will help him hold on and retain his humanity.

Hmm. Minor points to keep in mind. Red Hot has demonic parentage, and hellflame sets off a transformation in him. Sensible tactics suggest that he doesn’t use his firebending powers to absorb hellflame into himself.

Unfortunately Red Hot is too much of a hero – and possibly also too well trained for automatically using his firebending in combat to neutralise fire attacks – to not use his powers. We’ve just seen that. He knew that the hellflame would hurt him and start to change him, but when Flyboy was endangered he didn’t hesitate to protect his teammate.

I wonder how much Laampros knew this and planned to exploit it? I’m guessing not much, since he seemed to not know much about Red during the meeting-in-hell in chapter 2 and was prepared to be impressed by what he discovered then. But he could have been playing a poker face to test Red. Also, although he’s been physically barred from the Earth’s universe, he might have been able to gather information in advance by using, say, a moon sized floating eyeball as a crystal ball-like scrying tool.

So is Laampros enjoying this? We can reasonably assume than he’s experiencing the thrill of conquest of a new dimension. In chapter 2 he expressed parental pride in a strong offspring, and it’s also reasonable to assume that he’s looking forward to teaching his son all about demonic rule.

But think about this: stereotypically the more powerful and intelligent demons like to find a weak spot in the mindset and ethics of their victim, then exploit it and trick them to lead them into corruption. And this is happening right before our eyes. Red Hot is both being a hero as well as following his training – and the circumstances are corrupting him into a demon. Is Laampros pleased with how it’s all falling into place? Or does it all seem just a little too easy?

( I knew some girls who got tips like that…they aren’t worth the trouble)

I know that this is off subject, but while cooking dinner, I heard the phrase “My cheese balls shiver with pleasure” in a TV commercial for some sort of Christmas Party. I didn’t see the commercial, just heard it. I am not sure what sort of Christmas Party that is going to be. I’m not sure that I want to find out, either…

I increasingly find that it’s better to avoid commercial TV entirely. Advertisers appear to believe we’re all demented, unethical, stupid, cruel, or lust-mad, in varying proportions. News is worse. I’d rather read.

Whatever this was, I’m not sure that I want to see it. After SAUSAGE PARTY, I need want to see talking grocery items again.

They reason with Laampros.

Laampros is fighting for a tiny world that about to be transfered bacK to hell.

But the Galaxy is filled with whole worlds he can own. Mercury isnt even occupied.

Neither is venus.

Maybe he doenst know how big this dimension is and what a tiny worthless prize hes been offerred.

I bet Laampros can be reasoned to help seal the breech, ( for his son ) and take some prizes.

Laampros can melt mars core and help us Terraform it.

We can offer him Jupitor and Saturn. They might be sufficiently paradise to him. He can melt iceworlds out in the Oort belt. Keep Pluto as future human habitable paradise world. hes fighting for a mole hill when he can have a mountain.

I don’t think it is acreage Laampros is after. It is people.

Poor kyle. He’s dealing with so many changes all at once. I hope he is able to accept himself and somehow stay focused. *cross mah fingers

It’s a little worrisome that the mind-reader has to ask that question. 😡

1) I don’t think voices in Kyle’s head are what he needs right now. ^_^

2) Now that Kyle is getting in touch with his heritage, he might have some immunity to being mind read. So Amanda might not be able to use telepathy on him anymore.

3) It also might be a way to try to get Kyle to focus on something other than what he is going through in an attempt to help him.

#2 is the possibility that worried me: that either she couldn’t read him anymore, or that what she was reading was something she could no longer understand.

1) reading a good story, who needs to go to bed, one more chapter I swear
2) random bout of insomnia
3) someone woke her up earlier and she hasn’t manage to go back to sleep yet

I only worked 8:30 to 4:30 or 9 to 5. Never earlier than that. Although for a few years, I would be at the gym at 7am.

I’m terrible at getting up in the mornings. My bed is just always so warm and comfy. T.T

Yikes! I fell asleep a little after 2, way too late for a camp day. I got up again at 4:20. Usual time I set timer for camp-days, but I may snooze (button) a little some days. I do remember getting up quite early to meet for work at 5:00, but never so early as to meet on the middle of the night.

You guys are all making me tired.

I wasn’t supposed to get up this early, but I’m having trouble sleeping (again). I really should try to sleep for a while longer, actually.
