Okay. Was kinda expecting something like this, because I’ve observed for the last several pages that Commander and Red Hot were playing good cop/bad cop with their logic vs emotion arguments, and the obvious move was for Red to say something that would kick Annihilator in the proverials to shock him. However I was not expecting something quite so brilliantly hurtful as ‘lap dog’.

That said, there was time several years ago (when they were fighting Hunter and Killer, IIRC) when I speculated that ‘Annihilator has a functioning brain, and was not afraid to use it’. I must not retract that comment. If what Red Hot is saying is even partly true, then I am very, very dissapointed in Annihilator.

I honestly don’t think Kyle is strategising here, playing good cop/bad cop, not consciously anyway.

I think his words and his reactions are sincere -and for that, all the more hurtful.

I agree, but I certainly think Amanda is stalling. She knows the cavalry is coming. She needs to further focus Duncan’s attention, and I somehow doubt she’s above using Kyle’s pain to do it. She can always apologize later.

I’ve read other comments as well, supporting the theory that Amanda and Kyle are talking to Duncan because they’re stalling for time.
To be frank, that doesn’t make much sense to me; there’s no reason to stall, the time-bomb will go off soon, when it’s planned to go off. Whether Duncan is preoccupied talking to them at the time or not makes little difference. Bomb goes off, demon army appears. Even if Amanda is hoping that the military back-up will arrive before that, how is talking to Duncan or keeping him there helping in any way?

The most they can hope for is that Duncan will switch sides and stop the whole thing.

Yes, that’s the part I agree with you on. Still, Duncan is the only thing keeping at least some of the kids alive. Sircea did already threaten to kill Amanda. Further, information is power. Even if Duncan doesn’t change sides they can still learn a lot. Possibly enough to help the Army after the fact, or something they themselves can exploit to their benefit.

Despite his “Ozymandias” moment Duncan still has a role to play. For instance, Kyle has demonstrated an ability to hurt him when they were in Hell. It’s possible Sircea isn’t the only one who will gain additional powers when the demons come to Earth. What would happen, say, if Kyle is able to burn Laampros’ mark from Duncan’s arm?

Well, it’s been obvious for a while now that Duncan is being played by Sircea and doing her bidding. I’m glad our boy caught up to it so fast as well.

Lets see if Duncan will put his (massive) ego aside to consider the possibility or if he’ll stay in that river in Egypt.

What I wonder is *how* Sircea played him? Duncan is too smart to have dallen so stupidly. I smell backstory and it’s driving me nuts, not knowing.

He he chose the name when he was 26 or 27. He is now 58. 32 years ago. 1980, if “now” is 2012, when ch.1 p.1 was posted. Kyle would be born 1994, and burned down his home 2006. Spooky would be born 1992, and gone to hell 2005.

If Sircea lost her immortality during the Grey Working, and that was in the late 70s, then the first thing she would have done, would have been to try and find someone who would help her get it back.

Whatever caused Duncan to become a supervillain, happened around that time. Whether she had part in it or conveniently was around after the event, is hard to tell with the limited information we have. But suddenly The Annihilator is born and Sircea gets a powerful ally.

I previosly said it sounded like Duncan was quoting Sircea some times during his talk with Amanda. Like he needed to believe this to be the only doable solution to be a part of it. Hearing what Duncan said, Kyle obviously has similar thoughts.

I still believe that Kyle would sacrifice himself anyway possible if it was needed, but only if truly needed. He’s not going down easily, and all they can do to cause a devide between Duncan and Sircea will be in their favor. None of the team is going to roll over and just give up, because it IS obvious that not all options have been discussed or tested before Sircea and Duncan (or should it just be Sircea) decided this was the only way to do it.

Duncan will NOT like hearing this, and he so didn’t expect it from Kyle. Honest thinking and openhearted Kyle. I’m happy to see Kyle going along on this route instead of the ‘sympathetic’ one.
Kyle is showing an incredible growth in mental strenght. It’s going to help him cope with all this when the crisis is over, and he has time to process it all.

It will be hard for Duncan not to think about elephants on the next pages. ^^
I just wouldn’t call him a lap dog. Scapegoat would be more suitable.

Nope. I’m not sure if I’m somewhat relieved the other four are still out, or deeply worried about it. It might be good, because they – especially Spooky and Mitch – would be in pain, but.. I just want them awake and alert.

And then, in the next page, Duncan just says, “She’s been using magic for 6000 years. I trust her expertise” and walks away without getting upset at all. Just to screw with the audience, who universally expect him to switch sides and/or slip up due to emotion.

Time to take of thouse cool shades Duncan. You might look hot in them, but I wonder if you can see what is really going on.

It’s quite possible that Sircea could manipulate Duncan so thoroughly, especially if he’s been distracted enough with self-recrimination/justification that he hasn’t stopped to consider whether he’s being used. Honestly, I’m not in the “Sircea’s been manipulating him since childhood/early adulthood” camp, since I think an important aspect of Duncan’s character is that he made independent choices that got him on the path to villainy — that would be rather diluted if it turned out Sircea was pulling the strings all along. My best guess is that she caught him at a vulnerable time in middle age, when he first began noticing a physical decline and was in a nice period of existential panic. They’ve been “friends” for a while, and during their argument Sircea said that he’d never questioned her before. It doesn’t look like he’s thought too critically about this, and that would explain why he hadn’t tried obvious solutions like contacting Exsec or Spooky for more insight before putting the most drastic plan imaginable into effect.

I like the idea of Duncan being manipulated is due to a middle-age crisis.

And I do think Duncan chose his own path to villainy, which is why I’m in favour of the idea of him being manipulated since childhood.

However, we do know that for the first half of his 20s Duncan was up to no good, but not yet The Annihilator. I thibk he did something then, something he considered to be the turning point from which there was no return.

And I can totally see Sircea approaching him at that point, probably the darkest in his life, when he has to afmit to himself that he’ll never be the gero he always wanted to be, and befriending him.

I think the timelines are too convenient for anything else.

That’s a good point — I wonder why the drastic switch from criminal to supervillain (although from what Duncan’s said, it doesn’t look like he applied that label to himself willingly.) I think the most vulnerable times in Duncan’s life must have been as a kid, right after he seriously injured his former bullies; in his twenties, like you said, before taking on the “Annihilator” role; and middle age when he started seriously thinking about his mortality. Sircea easily could have stepped in at any one of those points to start manipulating him, but I think it was either in his twenties or middle age — I think she may have wanted to wait until it was clear how powerful, and therefore how useful, he could be, and adolescence might have been too early.

I personally lean towards middle age because that would have been the ideal time to suck him into this “live forever” plan, since it sounds like immortality and eternal youth were what initially had him invested in it, and his fear of weakening and dying clouded his judgment as far as questioning Sircea’s motives and her assessment of the situation.

He also seems to consider himself very much her equal, and I wonder if that attitude is because they met when they were — outwardly, at least — of comparable age. I think if she had met him while he was in his twenties and had been guiding him this whole time, he might defer to her more. It’s harder for me to imagine him saying “You had best watch what you say to me,” if that were the case, anyway. I could definitely be wrong about that, though.

You’re making some very good points.

However, for Sircea’s plan to have worked so flawlessly and him not even considering the chance of being manipulated, the manipulation should have started long before she mentioned this plan to him -and must have been (seemingly) irrelevant to the whole “Walls” thing.

Also, I’m thinking that if she met him when she had just lost her immortality, she would have still looked to be in her mid-20s, meaning they grew old together; that brings a further camaderie and forges an extra bond between them. No?

Right — I keep forgetting that we don’t have an exact date for the Grey Working. And I can definitely see how it’s more likely that he would take her at her word about the walls if they’ve known each other longer.

I went by the clothes the wizards/witches were wearing: late 70s/early 80s is my guess… Which fits perfectly.

Remember back in chapter 1 or 2 when we first meet Sircea…
Duncan says to her, “are such things possible” and she says “well, maybe.”

That’s a question, but it’s not a fundamental challenge to her knowledge or authority like the one he was making in Chapter 3.

I saw it as being the “seed of doubt” like he wanted reassured that what he was about to do — Wine and dine with Blunder and Boob showing up — was worth it.

I see what you mean. I guess since he wasn’t really attached to Kyle at that point, I didn’t think he was poking holes in her logic just yet.

In chapter one it seems that it is Duncan who has a theory about the source of Kyle’s power. But it is quite possible that she knew all along,. and tricked Duncan into thinking that it was his own idea.

Hmm. I *had* been leaning towards the idea of her manipluating him for a long time, but you make a very good point. I must think thinky type thoughts long and hard on this…

The important thing to him is that he thinks he’s made those choices independently. She’d never even need to interact with him to manipulate his life.

still though, even if it’s not directly, manipulating someone removes some or all of their agency, which reduces the ability to hold them fully accountable for their own actions. I would be ok with PP having had some hand in manipulating Duncan, in the latter half of his active career, but I think it’s important for him to be one responsible for setting the course of his life without her.

I disagree. Being manipulated into doing something doesn’t decrease a person’s responsibility for their actions. She didn’t force him to do anything, just a nudge in the direction she’d want, it’s all his choice.

Until he was established a powerful supervillain, she would have no reason to notice him as someone useable.

Not just a supervillain, but one who does have some ethics. A useful monster, someone who is willing to kill but who would want to save the world for the sake of others as well as himself. Way back at the start, Duncan said something about minors being off-limits, with a strong suggestion that he was one of the supervillains who came up with and enforced that rule. If you believe him, that’s something that makes him look like a supervillain who may think about more than “what’s in it for me?” if offered a chance to save the world.

And that is why she described what they are doing as saving the world. If he did not care about the world, she would have looked for another angle.

So, in effect, she dangled in front of him the opportunity to become (in a way) the one thing he really wanted but felt was beyond his reach: become a hero.

Well, that and immortality. Let’s not forget there’s more than just the altruistic motive here.

So, to distract us from unhealthy levels of schadenfreud at Red Hot pwning Annihilator, a random bizarre though: Do you suppose that hooded minion in panel 5 is the guy who was being snuggled by the bottled snakes? And is being snuggled by bottled snakes a better or worse fate than being gesticulated at by the Platinum Priestess?

He does have a pouty, “But you left me tied up by fire snakes for ten minutes, I don’t wanna lift the bone circle!” look to him.

I’d go for the snakes. I think their bites, when annoyed, would still be more harmless than PP’s.

(Also, I’m laughing at the setup of panel 5 — “You got it from her, didn’t you? The murderous sorceress lady wearing a headpiece that literally looks like devil horns? You are a dumbass.”)

PP’s true identity – She is actually a Queen/Princess of Hell that escaped 6000+ years ago, the walls where built to keep them from coming after her. Now she has to use Duncan to make a deal with a King of Hell to help restore her power and fix the walls, just in case someone remembers her and tries to attack her while she is weak. She doesn’t fear humans so much, but another demon could damage or kill her if it is strong enough.

If this doesn’t make much sense, blame my headache. somewhat better at the moment but still annoying.

Hey everyone.
I was considering whether I should say it or not, but Alex said it was oki to say in the comment, if I thought you guys should know – and I do. Alex is always around with supporting and encouraging words when one of us have news, be it good or bad. Also since some already know, and I’m sure you, like me, would like to give some open support.

As some of you know, mostly the people who was told in the last YP kickstarter email, Alex’s father had a stroke in early february, but was in the hospital where progress seemed to go forward. Sadly this ended yesterday, monday, when he suddently passed away, peacefully while sleeping 🙁 Luckily Alex got to go visit him, be with him and talk with him in what became his last days.

I suggested Alex to postpone this page but, Alex being typical loving Alex, he didn’t want to wait and let us hanging any longer on a cliffhanger page, even now. So I waited till after the upload, but I didn’t want to let this go in silence.

Now, Alex, once again I give my condolences, deepest sympathy and good thoughts to you and your family.

When I read of your loss Tuesday, i was at loss for words myself.
( despite having been there myself ) .

I wanted to say something compassionate, and profound and useful, grounded in my own experience. But I looked , and my well was dry.
Nothing I started seemed adequate; or sounded empty, hollow, insufficient.

I have no idea what type of relationship you had, but he was lucky to have known you.

Humans are born to break down and fall apart. We dont have backups.
The whole system is all-wrong, but no ones got a real solution. No one has a right.

Death demands on us, a reason for-itself.
First it robs from us the irreplaceable.
Then, it rudely demands on us, we somehow justify its inexcusable actions. I cant do that. I cant make the insensible sensible.

Death will have to answer for its own crimes, including its intolerable insult, that its somehow our job to make its actions meaningful. Its not.

Not every loss is equal, but the closer you are to the person the more Death demands we make IT special, instead. Like a child that burns down its house, and then demands itself birthday party.
Death isnt special. Only Life is.

Take whatever time you need. Or unexpected breaks. We will be here if you ask.

Redemption is a rare and beautiful thing, it’s not for everyone. He’d have to do a lot to be redeemed. Not just fix the damage he caused himself. I doubt there’s even enough time left in the comic to even theoretically redeem him.

I’m so sorry for your loss and I send my deepest sympathies @alexwoolfson. My grams died of a stroke too and in much the same way. We thought she was getting better and she just declined. She’s been gone almost two years and I still cry on her birthday which was February 27.

So, from one person who lost someone to a stroke to another, here are some massive hugs. I’m crying right with you as I remember my grams.

OoooOOOoooo!!! BAM! Hahaha, that was GOLD. And you can see it on Duncan’s face, he’s actually been shaken by this! But really, it makes sense… Sircea doesn’t care about the mortal world; she just wants to be a ‘goddess’ again.

I’m not so sure about it, I assume that “one day every magic user went cray-cray” is a fact as it’s easily verifiable but the real reason is that like Anni pointed out Commander wasn’t surprised by the whole incoming demonic invasion thing, and from her words I wouldn’t be surprised if Spooky was in on it too (in fact he may have verified the information from the other side of the walls).

Then again if the information that the “good” side has was also somehow directly or indirectly provided or planted by PP (again, only magic user not currently busy being insane we’re told) that would really increase my respect for her as a villain with a forethought (Was she actually behind the grey working and so took out all the competition? Could she be faking her powers being diminished, or even have them temporarily diminished as part of a long game?)… and she didn’t seem all too pleased that someone else could be unaffected by “the curse”, though that could be just her being angry at not being the unique snowflake and/or at Duncan questioning the plan.

In all fairness I’m almost sure Sircea has her own plan but I’m not sure the “walls of hell are collapsing” thing is necessarily a lie. Either way I’m on the edge of my seat here.

That there’s a real problem is true, that Sircea is the only one who can stop it and her plan the best and only way, that’s where the doubt comes in.

Not only takes it a lot of guts to say THAT to HIM and in THIS situation with all that just happened and might still happen, he even brought it out so determined and kind of sarcastic yet somewhat naturally as if it’s plain obvious (to some of us it is anyway xD)… I don’t know, somehow it had a big impact on me! I love the look of horror on Duncan’s face on the 3rd panel.

He can stand up to a king of Hell, he can fight vigilantes while his superpowers are gone, he can defeat a whole team of superheroes without breaking a sweat. Not much scares him.

But call him a lap dog and his upper lip starts twitching.

Fingers crossed that this was a large bucket of ice cold water on his head. At least something that can truly make him question everything. Granted I don’t know if this would fully check him enough to try to stop what is in motion.

I think it’s a start. Him switching sides immediately would be anticlimactic but I think his body language (Kyle says “her” and Duncan immediately turns his head towards Sircea, then when Kyle cobtinues talking he turns his full attention back to him) shows he’s at least listening. Intently.

I don’t know how many people have every truly slapped him so spectacularly. But sometimes a check in stride is enough to get one’s brain into gear, well to at least turn over (to continue a car metaphor)

Back to look at the page for the ump-tenth time today, because I just love Kyle on this page. Panel 2 is one of my fave Kyle panels. Looking at panel 1, and you can just see that Duncan expected something entirely else than snark. That hoping face, while they stare at each other… and then BOOM! Verbal slap in the face.

Point and score. Good job when you’re just hanging around 😉

As much as I was thinking (but also ‘scared’) that Kyle might possibly take another approach on this, I’m SO happy to see he went this way.

I love Panel 4. He sort of kind of does that Wally from Young Justice thing where he’s all snark and has that “Snark” face to go with it.

Such insight from the character who was so easily duped.

I don’t think that Kyle being duped so easily is indicative of his overall intelligence or insight. Just like I don’t think Duncan is stupid if he’s been manipulated into this by Sircea. I think both of them are extremely clever men.

But we all have the capacity to be played, when the right bait is dangled in front of us and just in the right way, by someone who knows what they’re doing.

He really did — I enjoyed his perceptiveness but I was also surprised by it. Of course, Kyle isn’t stupid by a long shot, and he has heard a fair amount of “Sircea assures me,” “Sircea said this,” and so on from Duncan. From an outside perspective, and bolstered by the mistrust of Sircea that Spooky had already encouraged (I really wonder what he said about her!), I can see how Kyle would pick up on the fact that she’s manipulating Duncan.

It’s more what Kyle said about Sircea guiding Duncan into thinking he figured things out on his own that threw me — that’s pretty specific, and how would Kyle know? I don’t recall Duncan implying in Kyle’s presence that he was the one who came up with the plan or anything. It’s possible that Kyle is just inferring it and gauging whether or not it’s true by Duncan’s reaction, but it’s still a more insightful leap than I would have expected, even from a quiet but acute observer.

I know! That did come as a surprise, mostly because it shows that Kyle has managed to divorce himself enough from his personal feelings to get a clear view of the big picture; in his place I would have doubted every word Duncan had ever said to me. But it seems that Kyle has the maturity to look back into their discussions and pick up the things that show (to us and him) what Duncan trully is about: someone who doesn’t take a leash well, someone who finds pride in his strength and independent spirit, someone who likes to lead, not to be led.
From that, it’s not a far cry to see that the only way for him to have been manipulated so thoroughly is if he thought he was the one doing the leading for at least part of the plan.

It’s Kyle’s maturity and wmotional strength that pleasantly surprised me on this page, not so much his smarts (I knew he had those in plenty, already)

Definitely agree. I really like that he’s not naive, no matter what Fluke said about him being the “youngest” of his friends. Inexperience doesn’t equal obliviousness.

I still think Kyle is the “youngest” -in the sense that he doesn’t have as much self-confidence as the others. In Mitch’s story we saw that even though he’s the youngest in age, he’s pretty confident in his own skin. On that first page of the prologue, Kyle was anything but. I think that is starting to change now…

Once this whole thing is settled, I have a feeling Kyle will need some coping/venting alone time to get it out of his system. Just drop him where damage will be minimal and let him let it all out.

It’s a common part of manipulation. You point the person you are “guiding” at something you already know, but don’t tell them about. They “discover” it and you reward them for their good work. They feel useful and involved, and you have tightened their leash. It’s common, but easily fallen for as well.

I enjoy the expression on Kyle’s face in panel four. It strikes me as something only one with a personal connection with Duncan can get away with–like Kyle knows he gets under Duncan’s skin and uses that connection to give him a Gibb’s smack. “You’re the effing ANNIHILATOR! How can you let her play you for a two-bit chump?”

Nicely played, and if I may–for some reason I’m imagining the scene in in “Return of the Jedi” where the Emperor–interesting likeness to the chickadee–is frying Luke with lightning and Vader is looking on. The music is rising, the tension is building, will he break, will he turn back to the good side? We can only wait and see.

I think panels 2 and 3 are my favorite.

I mean for panel 2 there’s this sparkle in Kyle’s eyes. He knows he has the perfect take down and he delivers it perfectly. There is nothing worse than telling a man who prides himself on his savvy, on his badassery, and telling him he’s not. A lapdog indeed–I’m assuming Kyle means a little toy dog since all dogs really consider themselves lapdogs, but I’ve had chihuahuas and those little brats think they are the shit.

And for panel 3, well the absolute shock on the Duncanator’s face. That hurt. He had gotten his hopes up his little hero just slid that bard right between the ribs and right where it hurt. His guard was completely down certain Kyle would never take that shot. As @disqus_P2huBPd9nS:disqus said, Duncan wants to be a hero, to be seen as a hero. He wants to be acknowledged as something more than just a villain or a monster no matter what he says about being willing to take on the role of that very monster.

No one has mentioned a shorkie yet, though I would not call them lap dogs. more like hand dogs? Little annoying balls of hair?

I had a neighbor several years ago with a full blodded, registered Chihuahua , the taco bell dog kind, and she decided to create Chiachsund. Yes, she had it bred with a chocolate dachshund. the puppies ended up with the giant dachshund head (and long nose), floppy ears, and giant feet (dachsunds were originall bred for hunting dogs, to dig out rabbits, foxes, and other small fur animals that made it to their dens) all stuck together on that tiny chihuahua body. it was disturbing.

After the hell-trip Duncan delived several verbal stabs. Now Kyle gets to do the same, now painting Duncan in the role as the naive, trusting fool who was played like a fiddle.

The sting in that pleases me as much as it burns Big D, because Kyle IS young with much to learn where as Duncan ougth to know better by now. Is/was he so eager to be seen as something else than a super-villain that he let himself be blinded from most of his better judgement in this situation? I say yes.

In YP timeline it’s not even been a day since Kyle was dragged to hell. One thing is living with the betrayal, doing what may need to be done next to save the world, another is forgiving done deeds.

Yeah, unfortunately, you are right; that is exactly what happened. The cop didn’t turn it in because he thought the case was closed. He kept it as a souvenir. He got caught because he asked his cop friend for the case number so he could have it engraved on the knife. Talk about WTF…

I know, right? I bet Ryan Murphy (the creator of the OJ series) is scrambling right now to film another episode based on the information that came out today.

I have two friends banging away at my email right now — one says guilty, the other innocent. I’m trying not to take sides. This is one of those times that I’d rather have rodents massaging my hemorrhoids that revisiting that trial.

It’s all just insane 20 years after the trial and all the associated nonsense.

And its being promoted to heck and back. I was walking around Sydney city yesterday on my lunch break and saw a large promo poster for it.

Not only a TV series. LA police just announced that a construction worker dug up a knife while demolishing OJ’s old house. He gave it to a cop across the street, but instead of turning the knife in–he kept it as a souvenir. He contacted a friend in the force for help getting the knife mounted and his contact informed his superiors. They confiscated the knife and they’re examining it for DNA evidence.

The LA TIMES now reports it is false.
I knew about the TV series and didn’t watch it. I lived through the media extravaganza and orgiastic nonsense that was the OJ Trial. I even laughed at the Dancing Itos. However, this nonsense is just that — nonsense. Have we descended into a drooling gang of (expletive deleted) to covet the worst of the worst as trophies or tchotchke for our mantles (or potency idols for the bedroom) of things like “OJ’s Knife” or “Rasputin’s mummified man-parts” or worse? I am desperately trying not to invoke Godwin’s law but that is just how creepy, awful, and ignorant this feels.

I’m not saying I don’t agree with you, but I’m also not saying I wouldn’t keep “Rasputin’s mummified man-parts” around as a sort of…conversation piece.

I agree. I have lots of knick-knacks laying around. None of them belong to a dead person. Although, my rock collection has a coprolite specimen and a stuffed piranha hiding amid the geodes, coal, pyrites, calcites and other minerals.

I should have gone to the beach today. I wouldn’t have had the huge brunch I did if I had, meaning my stomach would be much lighter -and it’s most likely the last opportunity to go to the beach while the weather is still warm. I’m fully booked for the next 4 weekends and by then autumn will probably have set in.

Oh well. I got Greece in July for a month.

I’m one of those people who gets red then lightly tanned for a month, and then back to be pale. It’s really unfair since my parents and sister tan easy and it last a while.

I’ve found if I spend just small increments at a time in the sun I don’t burn. I got a really nice tan that way when I lived in Arizona. But then again during summer in AZ, spending a lot of time outside is not smart.

Your tattoo will thank you down the line! I don’t like how I look tan so I don’t really sunbathe, but it’s a pain not to be able to hang out at the beach when you want.

I like how I look tan but the Aussie sun is very dangerous. This was the first year since I’ve been here that I deliberately sunbathed and didn’t get a tan by accident (I tan easily).

I’d mostly go for the swim.

Yeah, Hugh Jackman is one who’s out and warning about (Aussie) sun and using enough sunscreen now. He’s just had skin-cancer cells scraped of his nose for, I think, the 5th time.
Also, I have a friend who l just went through a bad case of skin-cancer last year. It’s a tricky type of cancer.

Fair enough. Down here in Melbourne, we get slightly more rainfall and a fair few more clouds, and it’s often not as hot.

We’ve all had a weird summer though. There were days when there were 40 degrees heatwaves in Victoria -while it rained cats and dogs in Sydney. Not to mention the windstorms. Weather’s gone cuckoo.

Gotcha. Neither are mine either. I can really claustrophobic in a big, tight crowd if I feel like I can’t really move.

I don’t get claustrophobic but I like my comfort; and all the pubs will be full with nowhere to sit, so standing with a drink in this heat while trying to get a glimpse of the parade over the heads of everyone else does not sound as appealing today as it did yesterday.

Far worse than nide bikers are those who wear lycra bike shorts with the transparent “sweat-window” right over their crack. Not a good look.

I remember watching the Tour De France one year and a team wore white lycra in the rain. That was the year SPIKE TV went bat-crap crazy with the camera angles.

At the Roskilde festival (a Danish music festival, and one of the biggest in Europe) there’s a Nude Run race every year. They only run 4-500m, but it’s quite popular to watch and there’s a prize to first man and woman to cross the line.

I think they are fun but Pittsburgh will never have a nude bike ride. They still freak out at the Furry convention and the gay pride march during the Three Rivers Arts Festival.

What’s the point of nude bike rides? Or nude running?

The key phrase here is “letting us know”.
Unless he was unable to communicate because the internet was down or something, Alex could be on a hospital bed (knock wood), on his way to the operating theater, and he’d still find a way to let us know if the schedule was to change. It’s just the way he is.

Then let me be the first to say I wouldnt expect that from him. If he was on the way to emergency surgery I would want him to know his fans wont criticize him for focusing on himself. I would be far more concerned for his well-being than an update.
