Spooky is obviously a DemonBuster, in the GhostBuster way. Getting big bad demony things into small containers. Bottles seems to hold demony things, so maybe the vials are spells or (healing?) potions that does god knows what xD

Big Giant Demon Bear with Laser Eyes Named Cuddles… What can I say? I’m in love…

First, may ask how many times do I have to compliment the truly immaginative panel layout… well (sorry, not sorry) at least once more. This is awesome.

Panel #1: OMG. I get size (bigger looking than the bone ring), the people look like lilliputions which is just a great statement on Duncan and Death-Ray Sircea and her minions. At least for this minute we get a bigger bad. Those red-eyes and the smoke still emanating from it’s back either from manifesting or from Sircea’s blast. I love the comparisons in this panel. Example: In the last one Duncan was a frightening freight train (he’s still a force to be reckoned with) but here he is SO not the focus of anyone’s worries.

Panel #2: Kyle’s shocked (totally adorbs) face is hysterical and that line, “That is a BIG Bear” are so damn funny. He’s both impressed, shocked and just sorta blown away. I’ll be rude and say that if (as a gay man) you go on a date unknowingly with a man with a truly BIG weener… and you (lets say) are confronted with it at some point in the evening… (?) Well, one’s response is often unintentionally the same as Kyle’s. Kinda like wtf am I going to do with that? (Sorry for the crudity).

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Amanda’s matter of fact response. Cleeeeeaaaarly she and Spooky discussed this and he told her he returned this item to Hell and got a refund… and now she’s confronted with the fact that followed his own path and, even while it ‘may’ be helpful… this is NOT what they discussed. She is so damn cool. I just love her more by the page. I expect she rolls her eyes next. Oi, Spooky…

The expression on that minion… ‘nuf said. Perf.

Panel #3: UHHHHH OH! I get the feeling Grumples spots… either Sircea as the person who just blasted his big furry butt with a laser beam or just the bone ring… and IS NOT PLEASED? It could be something else, but he’s not happy about something (snort).

Panel #4: YOWZA… those laser eyes. Nothing makes a bear special like laser eyes. If you have to have a cool demon in a bottle. I think this is the one to have! Spooky is THE MAN and being naughty and keeping a Demon Bear with Laser Eyes in a bottle in your cool trench coat is so perfectly him.

Lucky lucky Paul… I think. Heeeeeee…

I fully agree with the minion in panel two.

Uhm, panel 1. Is that giant demon laser bear treading on minions with both its paws? The feet on left side of panel has only a fluttering piece of robe showing and splash of blue water. The one on the right has half a minion still showing, but a distinctive flash of yellow as crushed hellsnake is violently discorporated.

I think the snakes are a bit further away from the path lined with standing stones. The nearest would be just off panel. Below the bottom of panel one.

The three minions close to each other on page 31 are probably the ones who just got ensnared with snakes, and as you say would be just off-panel on page 33, in front of Tsunami and below the bottom of panel as the readers view the panel. Therefore, assuming Shane is the lone minion wrapped in snakes lying between Fluke and Tsunami on p.31, our view of him is probably being obscured on p.33 by the bodies of Tsunami and the minions that Tsunami is fighting. That leaves the two minions who were closing in of Fluke from immediate left and right on p.31 to be the ones who have been stepped on by the bear on p.33. But I still worry greatly about the significance (if any) of that yellow flash under the bears foot.

You weren’t the only one wondering. When I noticed it (on b/w page), I had to go back to page 31 and reasaure myself that it probably wasn’t Shane under there.

Poor Minion Shane spends pages wrapped in snakes, and he gets fans who care if he gets stepped on. Screw the rest of the minions *lol*

Yeah, about that… This morning as I was still half asleep I had the realisation that I should be worrying about *whomever* it was getting squished, not just some hellsnakes. Now that I’m fully awake I think that my subconscious was prompting me to resist the standard Hollywood narrative of treating background characters as disposable canon fodder rather than being people. This was pretty deep, and makes me wonder if I might not be such a cynical and self-centred person after all. (Thank you, subconscious. I appreciate all the uphill hard work you do.)

Interesting how Amanda recognizes the “bear” but Kyle doesn’t. There must be a story behind it. I suppose it’s really a demon? Summoning demons seems to one of those things that Spooky does.

And even if it isn’t really a bear, shape informs function. It’s probably gonna act like any other ginormous bear with laser eyes while it has that shape. And I have no idea what the heroes or villains are gonna do with it. The bottle it came out of is broken, so it’s not going back in there.

Maybe spooky can use magic to repair the bottle.

Amanda and Spooky have known each other for 6 years, well before the team started. I think they have quite and interesting pre-YP story, since Spooky also hunts demons before/next to his YP work.

It’s a story I’d love to know much more about (the Patreon mini prose-stories only made that desire worse).

I suppose that makes more sense then what I thought I saw in that page… Sircea shooting warning shots, saying look at me I am scary run away. I thought her blast hit a tree.

Sircea wanted to kill all the Young Protectors, especially Amanda, but Duncan talked her out of it. Two pages ago, she says something like “now you give me no choice” and fires that blast out of her forked staff in anger and hate… and when it hits, something big, hairy and black, blocks the blast.

And at first I didn’t think it was a big bear but I I knew it was something living and large — some hell beast that Spooky captured. After Amanda’s remark on this page, I have the feeling that Spooky has his own little “pet” store of funky creatures. And the thought that he has his own personal demon-thing hiding inside him is much easier to believe.

Horses aren’t bred the way they once were. Of course you can breed the ability, but you can’t breed the heart and desire to win, the absolute love of running.

Breeding and training a 3 year old stallion is not an easy task.

BTW – I rented STAR WARS THE FORCE REAWAKENS and it’s better the second time around. However, I still dob’t like Star Wars after Jar Jar. I wasn’t a big fan before Jar Jar but after, I simply stayed away. It’s enjoyable.

This is true. Training horses is difficult, especially when a lot of young athletes are such assholes. But getting them started right is a huge must. So many end up getting broken down because they don’t have that foundation.

TFA: Yup, it plays well the second and third and fourth time. Especially when you get to pick up on the various emotions being portrayed, the little quips. It was much more like A New Hope, which was nice. I’m looking forward to seeing where ep. 8 goes.

Come to think of it, now that you made it a bear and you said it’s not a bear, this brings up mythology. All of Spooky’s bottles contain some sort of creature based upon ancient mythology. The golden dragons that Spooky released to hold the minions remind me of P’an-lung (coiled dragons.) They have no wings and are more water-based. That’s about all I know on these dragons; I’m not really versed on eastern dragons.

The “not-a-bear” reminds me of the Greek myth of the nymph Callisto. She was a handmaiden of Artemis (therefore, she vowed to be chaste), and Zeus seduced her. She bore a son named Arcas. Depending on the story, Zeus (trying to hide his infidelity), Hera (out of jealousy) or Artemis (for breaking her vow) turn her into a bear. Hera wasn’t appeased so she tried to get Artemis to slay Callisto; Zeus put Callisto in the sky as Ursa Major. Hermes saved her son Arcas and he joined Callisto as Ursa Minor. Arcas actually had a life of his own, but Callisto is one of those sad, sad stories. 🙁

The bear came from the bottle Fluke threw at Anni on previous pqge. A bottle that was dropped from Spooky’s coat earlier in the fight, when he got hit (back in chapter 3), so it was Spooky’s. It’s the bear that showed up in the split second to get hit by PP’s beam.

I like spooky. I’m giving him benefit of the doubt.

What tired me out was all the inside jokes and old movie references that never seemed to stop.

I just remembered (so don’t expect anything good from this review) that HBO or STARZ had THE FANTASTIC FOUR (2015) and I watched it.
It really, truly sucked. It was pathetically awful, Made the two previous movies on the Fantastic Four look absolutely Shakespearean. Just abysmal.

There was really some suckiness to that movie

It was awful. The actors had nothing in dialog or character development or even depth. Just cardboard figures, and that ending was like 5 minutes and done.

There was so much potential wasted on that movie. Plus a lot of the casting was off

Now it’s tied. Damnit I should never watch these games.

How is it going.

Woke up confused ro why my alarm clock was going, and why it was so damn humid in my room? Took me about a minute to realize that I hadn’t just dreamt that it rang, and that it was camp time. As for humidity, it’s a sudden warm morning + there might be rain showers today so air is horrible. Window open now.
That’s about how far my brain goes at this time of day, until I’ve been awake at little longer and/or get hit by hunting adrenaline 😉

I set my phone as the alarm clock and I’ve figure out ho to stop it in my sleep.

My phone is my alarm clock. It mostly works, thougjh I can also stop that still in my sleep. It’s what works best.

I have picked up alarm clocks and thrown them in my sleep. Then later on I find bits and pieces and wonder why.
