I would certainly hope so. At the moment Annihilator hasn’t been incapacitated, simply knocked backwards and briefly hindered. Well guess what Fluke, Annihilator has *already* been knocked back and briefly hindered by the laser!NotBear – and that didn’t stop him from getting up to intercept you. He can still run around the beanstalk to get to you, and he’s still got his superspeed. Having him be grabbed by a vine would be a really good idea about now.

If it’s tall enough, it may show up on radar and interfere with air traffic. (Although even with magic I doubt it would be tall enough to interfere with low earth orbit satellites.)

I thought it was giants bowling.

The line Americans remember is “Fee, Fie, Foe, Fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman,”
but in this movie (and for Britain) , the entire story begins with a more appropriate line: “Fee, Fie, Foe, Fum, Ask not where the Thunder comes, Ask not where the herds have gone, or why the birds have ceased their song. When coming home, don’t take too long, for monsters roam in Albion.”
That’s a better version of the tale for a bard or a minstrel rather than a book.

That one is new to me.

I actually mixed it up a little. It’s “Thunder is the sound of hoofbeats in heaven.” I think it’s either an old cowboy adage or from one of the Native American tribes.

It grew up hearing that and “Thunderstorms are God’s angels bowling against the demons; the demons are losing which is why it’s raining.” My aunt would tell my brother and I that to calm us down. She grew up in a Mexican family.

I’d not heard that one-

In Nigeria Thunder is a male Gods, one of the big macho ones. But interestingly *storms* are the domain of his wife, whose a river Goddess. The winds are supposed to be her dancing.

And now, the culmination of Fluke’s massive Luck reservoir, the Grand Finale, if you will. The beanstalk utterly fails to hamper Anni in the SLIGHTEST, indeed, our dear sweet Duncan merely punches the botanical bulwark, causing it to collapse, and continues on after Fluke. But lo, what light in yonder panel breaks? Tis the Dampener, and it lies directly in the path of said falling beanstalk!

Why would he do that when he can just run around it?

This is a great advantage. Its bulk will slow down the wind. Evaporation from the leaves will increase moisture of the air and contribute to the rainfall in the area. And eventyually it will produce beans that can be sold for livestock.

So this is good “luck” for the local environment. That is big thinking right there…

I wonder whether Spooky was supposed to keep this one, by the way.

M’dear two weeks ago I blew £50 on yoruba language dictionaries to try and clear up a point in Brazilian capoeira culture that’s been bugging me for a while. I don’t actually study this stuff (I’m a chemist) and I don’t come from (or have ever lived) anywhere near Nigeria or Brazil.

My job pays pretty well for manual labour (I literally move rocks by hand, large expensive rocks), because not many people want to do it. Point is, don’t be embarassed about having to google other people’s folktales, having the interest to do that is awesome. 🙂

I’m still a university student so I’m poor by default x’D

And actually I really respect anyone doing manual labour! In a way it’s a shame that people nowadays feel like they are “better than that”… I mean what do they think how things work? There are people collecting their trash and growing their food, building their houses or public locations etc. Admittedly I would prefer a non-manual labour, too (hence why I study) but I still respect everyone who works in those fields!
(May it be expensive rocks for whatever or simply construction workers ^^)

Finishing up a chemistry doctorate. But I’ve had all sorts of jobs so far, I’ve made shampoo, worked in university labs on enzyme probes and sugars, done some freelance art, made shirts and yeah transported rocks. 🙂 It’s certainly a good experience I think, a lot easier for young people though. I see people doing this sort of work who are in their sixties and some of them look like they’re struggling a lot. It’s given me a lot more pride than my other jobs though.

I also grow food. Because apparently I inherited that part of being English. We garden, even on boats and tarmac.

I worked in a pizza shop (making the pizza, not delivering) for 2 months but the pay was so bad I had to look for something else, so since then I’m working at a supermarket, mostly at the cash point, only sometimes unpacking. It’s also quite some manual labour depending on what you unpack x’D
but being a cashier is actually straining more! the concentration you need… it might sound funny… but we have to think about a lot, ask each customer a lot etc.
Not saying it’s a hard job or anything but there are times when it’s really giving you a headache, too x’D
I can’t grow anything >_<' not even flowers… somehow the earth will always get fungus and I'm allergic, I do not give them too much water though… I have no clue, maybe it's karma ^^'
But I'm busy as it is and don't really have the time to learn sth new atm, maybe later in life, when I have just one steady job (I'm studying Latin and Ancient Greek for teacher post) and not Uni and homework and part-time all at once x'D

It’s definitely easier when you’ve got more time! That said I can help you with the fungus problem because I had fungus growing with some of my plants. If you crush some garlic, soak it in water for a few minutes (3-15 may be) and then put the water on the fungus it tends to kill them. It can burn the plant though.

I actually do not have any plants for years because of that problem but I might wanna keep this in mind if I plan to grow some again in the future 😀

Ummm may be, but this year’s cosplay is definitely Wentworth Miller’s Captain Cold. And I’m neither the right race nor (more importantly) the right build for Spooky. I’m *tiny*. I’m 5ft and under 50kg.

Why didn’t Spooky use these bottles earlier? seems to me a giant Grizzle T. Rizzly on the loose, and a quick-grow bean stalk thrown at the gate to send it into the upper atmosphere until it tumbled over and shattered could have solved the first battle rather fast.

Maybe because they’re uncontrolable factors. As Amanda just said, the bear isn’t on their side, it was just luck that PP happened to be the one scorching its butt, so it took its anger out on her. Could just as easy have gone after a teammate.
I think these were last option possibilities that Spooky brought on own initiative, also since Amanda didn’t know he kept Fluffy bear.

If I could have one superpower it would be able to manipulate probability. Like what are the chances of a guy dropping 1 million dollars in front of you? 0%. Now, let’s make that 100%.

Isn’t that essentially the same as having the ‘superpower’ of being able to do or get anything you want whenever? That’s kind of ridiculous isn’t it? It would make you omnipotent.

Also you’ve got very similar wording to a tumblr post from a few years ago.

Check out Marvel Comic’s Longshot, Domino or even Scarlet Witch. They have the chance of manipulating probability in their favor. Key word is chance. Scarlet Witch has a few more tricks up her sleeve that have become crutches for writers, but Longshot and Domino have the ability and it’s far from omnipotent.

I am aware of those characters, but the way it was phrased by op clearly suggested the ability to make any desired event 100% certain to occur at any time, which is a little more than just ‘manipulating probability in your favour.’

I’m not sure what else to even say, I thought my original comment was clear: if you can have anything you want happen whenever you want, you are omnipotent. It’s practically the definition of the word.

I had a fight in my back yard while I was cooking dinner last night. Suddenly , as I’m peeling potatoes, I see movement and there it is, a fight.

First time this ever happened. They were only six or seven feet from my house. They have never been that close when I was home.

maybe they were so into it, that they forgot where they where? Or they know that they have nothing to fear from a mere human….

They put my house (which sits back from the road 300 feet between them and the road. That makes them feel safe.
I think this was just two young bucks pushing each other around just because they were bucks.I suspect twins because they are the same size.
The little ones (like Bambi) are curious but the adults aren’t. However, if I’m quiet and still don’t talk, the Doe and yearlings will come around without fear. The bucks never get close to any person. Not after the first mating season. The bucks are territorial.

After a nice sunny day. How is it going?

Not too bad. Getting ready to eat dinner. Been chilly and windy hear. Of course 70 is chilly for these parts. lol

I had chicken tonight. Tomorrow I have to go food shopping and brave my way through the supermarket. I’m so thrilled. just ecstatic. (loads of sarcasm, there)

We’re having chicken and sausage and sausage tonight.

My mama has been in the hospital for now four days for a bad migraine and her creatinine went through the roof (she has kidney failure but it wasn’t THAT bad.) They have CAT scanned her brain, taken every last X-Ray possible, done all the major tests, and they’ve basically ruled out everything but some sort of infection. I worry for my mama.

Not to mention the bill. The bill is going to be horrible. I don’t even want to think about it. Mostly I worry for my mama because she likes hospitals about as much as I do. I would have run out of the door by day two. I miss my mama.

It is and she’s at a place where no doggies from home are allowed. 🙁 Zena misses her mama too. At least she gets good hospital food. There’s the silver lining.

Thank you. We’re all holding it together. My mom got moved from observation (she was there because she was transferred there from the ER) to critical care. I’m glad she’s at a hospital with good food and good doctors, although that means the bill will be ginormous. Sigh. Some things are just worth it though.
