Always listen to Spooky!

I don’t know about always. There seems to be something bouncing around in my head when Spooky had some pretty questionable judgement.
Off to the archives to see if it has any basis in reality.

I’d follow Spooky anywhere. (my judgement might be impaired of course)

Well I think for some folks that might be the better alternative. 😀

Y’know, there was a Speed Racer movie made in 2008 that was based on the original anime/manga. Not sure that it did too well, but I enjoyed it. 🙂

Wow, it sure was!

I turned around and the email lit up with 4 emails announcing the page. I even had a handful of pretzel sticks in my mouth. Now I’m going to sleep with pretzel crumbs.

Yup. I was just sitting there fussing with the computer and thought I’d check on the comic and oh look, it’s the new page…at around 6:30 my time.

Chopped wasn’t even on yet. Sigh, I miss our discussions of the weird food stuff they use on chopped.

I like this page. I like it very much. Mitch has a bit more confidence and bravado that I expected from his earlier missteps.

Such a look of determination. Put your goggles on Mitch you have to take care of those beautiful and super powered eyes.

But they’re cracked. Normally I’d agree, but something hitting (and shattering) them could do more harm if he has them on.

Looking at panel 5, and there’s quite a distance between him and Cory. Looks like it’s still best going in from as low as possible, so straight forward and hope for the best.

really enjoying the bonus comic. Yes I am anxious to get back to Chapter 4. 2 more years to finish this opus

however I see the value of the bonuses. It’s not unlike what they did with Watchmen when it originally came out 🙂

I am totally in love with this page because it’s something that is completely me. Whenever I am doubting myself (or nervous) , this is EXACTLY the kind of conversation I have with myself. Mine is usually about my grams though.

When I was waiting for my division at the Special Olympics, I had this entire conversation with myself about what my grams would be saying to me because I was SO NERVOUS. I went, “I wish Grams were here. If she were here she’d clasp my hands in hers and say a prayer to protect me. Then she’d tell me to remember to breathe deeply and sit straight. She’d tell me I could do this and she’d probably say something mushy about being proud of me while straightening the lapels of my show coat because she’s anal. She’d find some way to make laugh and not cry.” I’m one of those who cry when I’m nervous so she always found a way to make me laugh!

I love this! For so many reasons!

Third:feeling so unsure and inadequate (not true, but what 15 year old doesn’t have doubts? Even a 15 year old superhero)

Fifth:frig it, gotta adult up and deal with it.
Sixth:go go go! (Um why are your goggles not on, your eyes are important)

Goggles, Mitch! Goggles! The one time you take off into an actual debris field and you forget your goggles?

They are all scratched up….I really don’t think they’re good safety spec, our standard ones at work could survive explosions. We tested em.

currently working a plant with a dye lab and lots of acids and such things, and having first hand experience, I must ask, was it an intentional test? 😛

Yeeeeeeah, it was part of the ‘wear your safety gear!’ introduction to the job. Sealed glass with some water inside put over a flame to boil. There were two cherry tomatoes to represent eyes, one behind the specs the other just to one side. At the end we recovered an intact pair of specs, one slightly bruised tomato and uh………..had a smear of tomato sauce along the wall.

Let’s see, what did I do this week?
Well, my eyes hate me because I read a murder mystery — Robert Galbraith’s “Career of Evil” … It was fun.
And the weather was uncharacteristically warm so I could sit outside and enjoy the Autumnally orange and yellow trees.

Doki has been sick in more than one way. Hasn’t been fun.

I hope you are feeling better.

There are mornings that I wake up ready to kill grizzly bears and take that out on the world of politics. Somehow that gets me going.

eh. various stomach issues and depression. not a fun combination.

My tummy hates half the supermarket.

well, try having stomach issues that aren’t the same for two days in a row for about a week

I have. I stay home and try not to destroy too many pieces of clothing or create too much laundry. I hate to say it that way, but that’s the sad truth.
There’s a reason I Eat dry shredded wheat for breakfast every day.

That’s good. I don’t know what else to say but eat bland food and drink water. That’s all I can do when my tummy goes wild.

Well, mostly just the one sport. Our other sports guys are not as good at the other sports.

I had to drive home from the Symphony last Sunday with the losing team’s football traffic. That was misery. Those people drove like the team lost — awful.

I’m in a good mood because after instructing the kids at kung fu this morning, three of the parents came up to thank me and tell me I’m doing a great job. One of them said I’m great with kids, and another mentioned how the kids listen to me and follow my instructions.

It is. 🙂 I was already feeling good about my own kung fu because on Thursday I helped someone make a small modification to their technique that made a huge difference to their results, and gave them one of those “eureka” moment where their eyes go wide and they start breathing heavy and/or laughing. That’s also a good feeling.

Seems like it. At least, they haven’t been actively rebelling against me.

Yet.

I once teasingly grabbed a kid who was a high school wrestler and within 30 seconds never did that again. He didn’t hurt me but he was stronger than he looked.

Yeah, don’t do that. A guy at one of my former workplaces one poked me (quite hard, enough to move me forward)m in the back, and before he could pull his hand back I’d spun around, trapped both of his arms across his chest, and bopped him on the nose with a clenched fist.

If I hadn’t stopped myself in time I could have broken his nose at the very least. 🙁 And that would have made me a sad and unemployed panda.

The kid didn’t knock me down but he did make me struggle to maintain my balance. I apologized which surprised him.

Still better than some stories I’ve heard. My teacher was attacked from behind once, and threw the guy through a window! Which he had to pay for, because it was his mother’s window and he was a teenager at the time.

That doesn’t sound good. Broken windows are dangerous.
I worked with a robotics group once as an advisor… (build a robot that does things and compete with other groups) and one of the fathers thanked me for teaching his kid how to hammer nails through a board because the father couldn’t and would never have taught his kid.
Now that surprised me more than the wrestler.

Just recently we had a parent thank my teacher (head instructor, owner etc. of the kung fu school) for lecturing her 3.5-year-old about paying attention and doing what he’s told, because she didn’t “want to be the bad guy”

Don’t you just love that.

Kids want authority figures and some parents never understand that.

well, we DO advertise that kung fu teaches kids about discipline. Which it does. Through the medium of us, the instructors.

Kids want that structure. Kids need that structure.
What kids don’t need is a buddy who does everything they want.

Oh dear.

To be fair to her, she was parenting and such, she just didn’t want to be too strict or raise her voice and so on. Her style of disciplining involves threats (of cancelled activities or loss of privileges) that are not followed through.

Right, which is crappy parenting.

OK, you guys are too dull tonight. Time for a story from Uncle Dave:
There were three kingdoms, each bordering on the same lake. For centuries, these kingdoms had fought over an island in the middle of that lake. One day, they decided to have it out, once and for all. The first kingdom was quite rich, and sent an army of 25 knights, each with three squires.
The night before the battle, the knights jousted and cavorted as their squires polished armor, cooked food, and sharpened weapons. The second kingdom was not so wealthy, and sent only 10 knights, each with 2 squires. The night before the battle, the knights cavorted and sharpened their weapons as the squires polished armor and prepared dinner. The third kingdom was very poor, and only sent one elderly knight with his sole squire. The night before the battle, the knight sharpened his weapon, while the squire, using a looped rope, slung a pot high over the fire to cook while he prepared the knight’s armor.
The next day, the battle began. All the knights of the first two kingdoms had cavorted a bit too much (one should never cavort while sharpening weapons and jousting) and could not fight. The squire of the third kingdom could not rouse the elderly knight in time for combat. So, in the absence of the knights, the squires fought.
The battle raged well into the late hours, but when the dust finally settled, a solitary figure limped from the carnage. The lone squire from the third kingdom dragged himself away, beaten, bloodied, but victorious.
And it just goes to prove, the squire of the high pot and noose is equal to the sum of the squires of the other two sides.

Get out.

I would probably just throw it at someone. If I were a really bad kid, I’d probably throw it at the house that I’d just gotten it from. Seems like there would be a big chance of this backfiring.

It’s just ice. No color or stain potential.

I had a friend whose Parents gave out charcoal one year. That did backfire.

Still better than evangelical religious tracts. Which are a real thing that people really hand out on halloween. >__<

Thankfully, my trick or treating days were before that bit of awfulness.

I forget the last time I used a pumpkin pail, or one of those nifty bags that cannot hold anything without breaking….we used pillow cases

When I was very little I used just my plastic pumpkin, and then I eventually shifted to plastic pumpkin plus a double-bagged plastic grocery bag to hold overflow.

But plastic bags have handles for easier carrying

By “duty” I mean “errands” of the responsible adult sort. Walking the dogs, picking up dog food from the supermarket (we give them fresh-ish meat, not canned or compressed log stuff), dropping in on an open-house inspection of a house for sale because it was on the way to the shops and why the hell not… that sort of stuff.
