Anaado has a better memory than I do. I have trouble remembering what clothes I wore yesterday. The clothes I wore many years ago? Yeah no.

Once again, I get proof that I have no idea where the story is really going. Nice job, Alex, Adam, and Veronica. I wasn’t expecting this twist at all. Well done.

I suspect that part of my problem is that I keep trying to figure out how the characters can return to the status quo instead of trying to figure out what the story is about in the first place.

Anaado’s magic does not look black to me. But it is very powerful.

I think it’s the good time now for Kyle to come back to himself and slap Anaado in his face. Damn what an arrogant demon being. I’m sorry but after that I’m hoping they’re not going to save him and that he is going to rot in hell.

One of my favorite quips ever.

It occurs to me that under other circumstances Anaado might perhaps be using an illusion change Spooky back into his 13 year old self, but at the moment he’s packing the stolen power of a demon prince and therefore the transogrification is real and physical.

Which still leaves important questions. Has Anaado somehow stripped Spooky of his magical powers? We’ve already seen on the previous page that Anaado can block Spooky from affecting him, but can he block everything? And in any case, how much of Spooky’s power is innate and how much is learning? Dare we hope that de-aging Spooky is (in part) a psychological trick to make him think he’s been stripped of all his power, and one which Spooky will see through?

Good questions all. And I believe it’s always good not to lose hope. 🙂

Is it me, or is that eye in panel 4 checking out Anaado’s butt?

I had a longish dream last night how this conflict might resolve.

Spooks & Anaado are battling in midair. Suddenly, Kyle tears himselffree, peeling off Annado’s body like a skin. Unfortunately, that causes them to plummet back to the ground, landing somehow on a manicured lawn.

Spooks hugs Kyle “You did it! We’re back!”

Kyle shakes his head, eyes wide with horror, and points at a sign:

“Gehenna Academy

Established 666

Alexander Laampros, Headmaster.”

Spooky’s jaw opens wide. “Oh, hell…”

And then, in a distortion like heat haze, Laampy shows up….

As for this page… illusion or transformation? And if the latter, would this mean Spooks is powerless?

(My assumption is no, but I’ve learned not to second-guess Alex. 😉 )

This is almost embarrasing, but a sign of how tired I’ve been in the last 24-36 hours. I completely forgot about camping, and a new page coming. I didn’t even sudently remember, but got here and was surprised to see a new page. That’s when I realized. I’ve been awake for a couple of hours o_o

I mean, I *knew* in the back of my head that it’s saturday, which automatically should make me know of a new page, but somehow it just didn’t settle in the from of my head enough for me to put the pieces together.
Never tried it this way before. Talk about being tired xD

(Well, that and being caught up reading a new book)

Okay.. I know that Anaado is a demon. That is pretty obvious 😉

However, I wonder if Anaado has slightly forgotten how he, himself, used to be 7 years ago. They have both aged and changed.
1) He’s just spend 6 years imprissoned and being treated bad (tortured?) and 2) He got a power boost from merging with Kyle. 3) Seven years ago he experienced how to feel love. Something unusual for a demon to feel (he even said that himself), only to have his heart broken.

Has this brought more of the demon behavior in him? It seems likely. I just don’t think he realizes that they’re both not who they were, just in different ways.
Nope, this certainly ain’t the happy reunion either dreamed of.

Ever since Annado first appeared, I have been debating with myself which category he falls under (Hero, Villain, Anti, etc). I always thought he would stay somewhere in the middle, but if he prefers Spooky as a smelly soft little thing, then he is definitely a villain in every sense of the word….

I’m kind of worried about the eye in the middle right panel, the one that seems to be emerging from the ground and NOT from the dead worm. And it is just me, or does it look like the eye is staring up Anaando’s loincloth?

Not much else to look at here.

I wonder, did Anaado have genuine feelings for Spooky or did he just like being the strong one in the relationship. He doesn’t seem to be high on the demon hierarchy so getting to play savior and protector must have been a new and pleasant experience for him.And if it was genuine is he feeling used? Like you loved me when I could help you but now you’ve upgraded and forgotten about me?

I’m still hoping he gets detonated or something but it’s interesting to think about.

From the looks of things, I think Anaado does have feelings for Spooky but only when Spooky needed protection and couldn’t take care of himself. He feels threatened by Spooky growing up and maturing into a complete person.

You can look at it from a different angle, too: Anaado is pretty shocked and horrified to discover Spooky’s alignment with a prince of hell and the request to give control of his body back to that prince of hell; And now Anaado is trying to remind Spooky of how they had been fighting against exactly that kind of demon!

It’s very much a matter of perspective, and Anaado’s is of course sharpened by the years of torture he had to endure from demons just like he imagines Kyle to be.

I’m not saying that any of that excuses Anaado’s actions, but it may explain a thing or two…!

Of course now would be a pretty good time to take a step back and actually talk at least to the extent that the main misunderstanding can be resolved!

When you start looking at it from another perspective and seeing the evidence to back it up, it’s pretty obvious that Anaado would feel hurt by Spooky’s request. Yet, I feel that there is more going through his words and actions through these panels. He wants remind Spooky to remember of their time in Hell when he was the one who had the power to protect him.

Specifically when Spooky was a “…just a smelly, soft little thing — dripping with snot and terror.” Then he turns him into a younger version of himself. How does is this in any kind of way a stable relationship for the two of them? Having a relationship with a partner should be about growing and forming a life with each other. Anaado believes that it’s either my way or I turn you into the form I think it’s best for you.

I can excuse the years of torture and him having a bit of a grudge against Kyle. Even though he’s never met him in person and it’s clearly his body/magic that he’s using. Though it doesn’t excuse him doing this kind of behavior to his lover.

No excuse indeed, but Anaado’s motives can be anything between (and even beyond!) your speculation or mine…

That’s true! Here’s hoping that Kyle and Spooky make it out of their lives. With Anaado who needs a reality check and to apologize to them but shouldn’t be sent back in his cell.

And I’m really enjoying the discussion between Bobby and Noiseshaper here that the question provoked. Interesting speculation all around.

This reminds me of that scene in an episode of “Buffy TVS” where Willow relives her earlier life as a nerd who had, in Cordelia’s words, “seen the softer side of Sears”.(I think the scene was in that nightmare episode that ended a season, but can’t remember which one)

Interesting. I don’t remember that episode. How does this scene remind you of that?

The clothing and suggestion that Spooky was lesser than he is now. That he was less self-assured, less seasoned, and just a geeky schlub.

It reminds of the BtVS episode “Restless” that ended season four(The one with The Initiative as the Big Bad). The was a dream story because the Scoobies had tapped into a primeval power of Slayerness to kick Adam’s ass. This woke up the First Slayer who was pissed because reasons.

The scene in question was part of the assault on Willow where she appears in a classroom in the Gatlin, Nebraska-esque outfit she wore in the opening of season one before she became a Scooby.

Wow. Anaado’s power is quite amazing. Didn’t expect a makeover in Hell. Lol! I hope Spooky is able to still remember his magic and who Kyle is. Alex, u r very tricky! I hope somehow there is a happy ending.

Mostly a curiosity.
I wrote a short story for him a few months ago with that theme. It started out with the castrati of Opera. (male countertenors)

I first heard a countertenor in PDG Bach’s “Iphigenia in Brooklyn” when i was in college. Then a couple decades later in a Handel opera.

“Iphigenia in Brooklyn” — ahhhhh, one of the great classics of all time! I hope others can learn of PDQ’s wondrous talents.

Just about 30 years ago now, I saw Peter Schickele live with the Pittsburgh Symphony. It was spectacular and hysterically funny. for the finale they did “Beethoven’s 5th as a Sporting Event.”
During a “trombone” chamber ensemble, two of the musicians sat out in the audience to watch and they were literally on the floor laughing.

He appeared at Pittsburg State University here in the late 1980s. It was hilariously wonderful. The grand oratorio “The Seasonings” is so skillfully written I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at times. “By the Leeks of Babylon” sneaks up on you. Then “To Curry Favor, Favor Curry” combines Handel, Beethoven and cheerleaders in a most delightful way. Wow, I have to dig out the album and listen to it again! Thanks for bringing it to mind. 😉

From what I understand, when he taught composition, one of his assignments was to write short compositions without an original note. He really does understand music theory and especially baroque and classical music.

Spooky performs a tit-for-tat, and de-ages Anaado back into being an egg. End of YP:Legendary. Cue next webcomic.

The Greeks had a name for that type of climax — Deus Ex Machina and they used to lower an actor in a big mask onto the stage using a large winch. Hiding the winch was a problem in open air theaters, BTW

I really think that Spooky will find a way to “die” and leave Anaado in the Hell dimension thus getting Anaado out of the clutches of Velliok. Then he’ll go eat overcooked pasta dumplings with Kyle and rave about it.

I still just wonder if it means Spooky is able to reclaim the name he was born with but had forgotten.

I’m so not sure about his amnesia and I’m keeping my speculative thoughts to myself.

I’m expecting something like that (although as always, we could be wrong, because (everybody all together now) “Alex is tricky”).
Narratively speaking, Anaado’s last two actions (blocking Spooky’s spell to try and drive him out of Kyle’s body, then de-aging Spooky) continue the theme that Anaado has stolen the power of a demon prince and is mucho powerful. Spooky is also a powerful magic user, but we’ve also seen that he’s a determined and lateral thinking magic user. I suspect that Spooky using his intelligence to trick Anaado in some way is the emotionally satisfying resolution.

If I say — sounds good to me — something else happens. So I won’t say it.

For most of chapter 3, I’ve been wondering how Spooky will explain this to Kyle

I don’t think he’ll voluntarily let go but I think he might overstretch his reach and lose his grip on Kyle’s mind. Once Kyle starts waking up Anaado’s in for a difficult time.

I woke up at around 3:20am, only yo be awake up around 5:15 when I crashed again. So now I woke up late and can’t camp, as I leave in 7mins. Will be around a little later, either arriving at work, or during a work break to see the new page.
