So the only cemetery near Sisters would be the Camp Polk Cemetery. As far as I know, it doesn’t work like a certain pet sematary we know of, but if Spooky’s going to do something to raise the dead, I’d like a little advanced warning so that I can be prepared to welcome my dead relatives back home. Adam and Veronica’s version of this cemetery is pretty spot on except that this is the edge of the high desert and everything is brown and sage brush-y. I’ll just think of this as artistic license. lol
I love creepy:
“It would be easy to be clever, And tell the stones: Men hate to die, And have stopped dying now forever. I think they would believe the lie.”
But children now creep between the rows and with piping voices summon the dead and demonic wraiths that haunt the dreams and raise the living to die again and again.
“Shadowy, shadowy, yet unbroken,
Is a symbol and a token.”
“Say the words and sing the dirge, the mighty wait for our minds and souls.”
In my world, everything is a little greener.
Spooky graveyards now remind me of The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. It’s about a boy whose parents were murdered when he was a baby. He gets adopted by the dead and the resident vampire who raise him until he’s a young adult and has to leave the graveyard afterwards.
So. Um. Are there ghosts in The Young Protectors’ universe?
I recently read that graphic novel, David. It was really good! It explored interesting concepts.
Interesting question. Having a magical universe doesn’t necessarily mean they have ghosts or vampires or…
We’ll have to see what Alex has in store for us.

(for real though IRL I like to visit cemeteries, often they are really beautiful)
That’s one of my favorites. A friend of mine who writes YA turned me on to it after it won the Newbery Medal. I’d enjoyed Gaiman’s comic work on Sandman, but this was the first of his novels I really connected with. And I loved it.
As someone who is looking to create prose work in addition to comics, Gaiman is a huge inspiration for me, and The Graveyard Book is very much at the center of that.
One of the best reads out there.
