If looks could kill…

On the last page, I announced that The Young Protectors Community forum was now open to all readers. But you still needed to create an account to view the comments. Now you can view posts and replies on The Young Protectors Community without an account. So, if you haven’t yet, go take a look at the cool new community forum I created for y’all. 🙂

(And then create an account and Introduce Yourself!)

The only reason I’m able to keep making The Young Protectors is because of the very generous support of readers like you on Patreon. So, I want to to send out a very special thank you and welcome to our new Patrons this week!

D C, Lapha_Denec, Thomas, Erik B., Robert B., Joseph J., and James W.

Thank you all so much for your amazing support! You and the other Patrons are all the real superheroes of this comic!

(Do you want to make sure this comic continues? Ready to dive even deeper into The Young Protectors world? Learn more about all the benefits of joining me and your fellow readers as part of The Young Protectors tribe on Patreon and then come onboard!)

So… this looks disturbing. Who are those dudes around that altar? What is that thing on the altar? What have they done to those kids? And what are our heroes going to do about it?

Tune in this Wednesday to find out! Hope to see you there! 😀

  1. Blood Sacrifice, that’s what this is…
This magic must require the blood of children
    ghastly

  2. That’s an odd arrangement, having the kids on the outer ring and the adults and altar inside. If they’re summoning some demon from the altar, you don’t want it to have to leapfrog over you to get to the children.

So it’s probably not a circle of protection those kids are for, and probably not a life sacrifice either. But if they’re bleeding… maybe the ritual requires virgin blood? Is that why they’re using kids?

Hm. My best wild guess is that someone’s getting old and doesn’t want to be old any more. But I don’t have much confidence in my guess.

  3. Spooky would agree with you.

Good questions and speculation. We shall soon see.

  4. Avatar for Klaus Klaus says:

These people around the altar, will they get stabby?

  5. Is it just me or do those capes remind anyone else of all those minions from Duncan’s and Sircea’s last ritual?
Using kids as whatever kinds of sacrifices, even if it’s “just” a little blood (up until now) is so detesting…
In a way it’s quite a big coincidence our heroes walked in on this, or DOES it maybe have to do with the rest of that magic stone they’re looking for? Or is is trap even to lure them there??
    I guess we’ll have to wait…

(and damn, Spooky’s expression in the last panel gives me the chills… in a good way x3)

  6. Uhm, let me clarify my response. Could they be trying to summon Baal? I think that’s the one that is the “eater of children”. My mythology and braincells are seriously mashed anymore.

  7. 8%20ball%20-%20signs%20point%20to%20yes

All great questions, @bronakopdin. And that look from Spooky gives me the good chills too.

    Another good question.

  8. this is terrible horrible no good very bad.
squints looks like the number of kids and perpetrators is about equal… and i have nothing to do with that info yet but there it is. wonder if that’s an egg on the altar shudders bleagh
they’re in a graveyard, sooooo either it just happened to be secluded for this ritual or there’s gonna be some necromancy/demon-summoning/what have you in the cards. I hope that scrying bowl can be put aside without hecking it up somehow bc like. carrying that and the shard around could hamper movement yknow.

  9. Now that he’s found what he was looking for, the scrying disc can be set aside.

It’s not in the script, but is there a reason why the boy in the middle looks like young Spooky?

  11. Reeks of blood and death, and they’ve got some sort of sigils carved into their flesh. Typical insane cultist move, probably attempting to trade virgin sacrifices for sufficient power to bring forth some eldritch abomination beyond human comprehension. You’d think they’d get tired of imitating Lovecraft?

  12. Welcome to the TYP Community.
If you look really close at the altar, that is a ribcage sitting on it with some magic force around it.

  13. My favorite guess is the children are a trap or a ward protecting those inside. Maybe they are “Children of the Corn”? Surely good church-going followers of Nyarlathotep wouldn’t hurt innocent children???

  14. BREAKING NEWS! Breaking News,
(Not Lions, Tigers, and Bears, but OH MY!)
    PEEPS gone bad!
    PEEPS making human sacrifice,
PEEPS souring like spoiled milk! when%20Peeps%20go%20bad

  15. That would be purely coincidental.

    These magic users never sleep.

I like the way you speculate.

  16. Avatar for Nate Nate says:

Ah well… they can’t all be winners.

  17. Cory’s eyes are the proverbial size of dinner plates. He has only seen one or two “magic” and “super” adventures up-close-and-personal. I doubt that they contained blood and bound children and glowing artifacts on profane altars.

  18. Avatar for Jim Jim says:

    You’re right. I didn’t even notice it.
